Lately I've been eating this porridge nearly every morning for breakfast with my green juice. The recipe came to me through a friend and I have made a few modifications. It is so hearty and I feel full and energized until lunchtime, but it also doesn't make me bloated or feel like I have a rock in my stomach like muesli does :-D
This recipe makes 2 massive servings if you're feeling ravenous, or 3-4 smaller ones for the more average eater
--> 1 cup of raw buckwheat
--> 1 large banana or 2 small ones
--> a handful of nuts (walnuts are yum, but use whatever you like or a mix! I sometimes assess my nutritional needs and go for brazil nuts or walnuts if I feel low in zinc and other minerals...your call)
--> cinnamon
--> coconut (shredded, cubed, paste, whatever your fancy)
--> figs or dates or honey or a combination of your choice
--> a splash of almond milk or other milk of your choice
--> goji berries (or mulberries, both have very high levels of antioxidants)
You may want to do the following things:
1. Soak the buckwheat overnight (or for 1 hour minimum) and then rinse that slimy goo off. In fact, rinse that shit til the water runs clean. You don't want to eat that...
Then pop those delectable kernels into a pot and tell them to sit tight while you make up the rest of the ingredients.
2. Blend/process/pulverize all of the other ingredients. You really don't have to be stuck on the exact quantities or even the exact ingredients. I can often be found at 6:00 am with my head all the way in the refrigerator scrounging for what else I can put in there. Try 2 bananas! Try a banana and an apple, or just an apple, a pear, some berries. Go wild! (and let me know if you hit on something amazing!) The above ingredients are what I normally use and my personal favourite.
3. Once smooth and creamy, scrape into the pot with the buckwheat and stir it all up.
4. Heat on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently (if you smell burning banana you need to stir it more!) and voila! Enjoy ravenously!!!! (and remember to chew thoroughly)

why I am loving Maca
I read this post from Vani, the
Food Babe, today and was excited to hear about all the great benefits of Maca -
I have been taking Maca for hormonal balance, to treat PCOS and over the 2 months or so I've been taking it many of my symptoms have cleared, including and especially my skin (THANK GOD!).
Great to hear about the 7 essential amino acids also contained in Maca.
And, amazingly, this superfood also tastes great!!! (it has a kind of sweet, malty flavour) I drink it straight up mixed with chlorella in a glass of water each morning, but obviously there are many ways you can experiment with taking it. Seeing as it's a raw superfood, I personally wouldn't put it in anything hot like a porridge or hot chocolate (as suggested by Vani) as you might run the risk of destroying some of the enzymes it contains
Love,
